Temporary filling causing pain

Gaps between the tooth and the filling , even one that is hair-like, can allow external stimulations to reach and irritate the tooth pulp, leading to tooth pain. Aside from being a cause for tooth pain , these gaps can lead to the development of new decay and a passageway for bacteria to infect the tooth pulp. Until then, treatments are available to help reduce the pain experienced from a lost filling.

For immediate pain , try rinsing with warm water to loosen any foreign object that may be causing the pain. Our dentist said it would just tide the problem over until next Monday, when he will put in a permanent one.

The usual duration of discomfort is from a day to two weeks with a diminishing pain level over those two weeks, pain after two weeks or increaseing pain are indicative of problems. The temporary filling was also accompanied by off and on pain (intermittent). THe pain only came after the temporary filling. Typically, this nerve response is one of the most common reasons patients experience pain from temporary crowns.

The nerve in the tooth may also be traumatize” says Dr. Paul Sussman of Rochester, New York. In most cases, the tooth that requires a crown is already compromised due to decay or trauma,.

Temporary filling is meant to be used on teeth whose fillings have fallen out, or for gluing temporary crowns and caps back on your teeth for a short amount of time, its not meant to be put on cavities, because by blocking it off it could cause it to get worse.

Most likely the pain is from the inflammation around the root of the tooth, especially at the apex or tip of the tooth where your dentist instrumented the canal(s). This is not uncommon and may last for a couple of days or more in some cases. Never put pain relief medication on the tooth or gum tissue, as this could cause a chemical burn to your gums. If the nerve was actually expose it can take a week or two for the exposure to heal. In this case, the filling is interfering with your bite.

You will need to return to your dentist and have the filling reshaped. Pain when your teeth touch. This pain is a very sharp pain that occurs only when your teeth touch.

I went back after days for the onlay today. In deep fillings, sometimes the nerve can get irritated and that can cause pain. After the temp is placed the tooth will either settle down within a few days or weeks, or not. If the pain continues or increases, you will most likely need to have a root canal. Dental adhesive failure brings about leakage on the edges of the crown which can be associated with temporary crown pain.

As well, dental adhesive failure can cause inadequate and improper bonding between the affected tooth and the crown. If the crown moves due to this dental adhesive failure, it can be painful or may even entirely come off exposing the sensitive tooth underneath. The dentist said she saw a little bit of pink nerve that did not looked inflamed and put Eugenol and a temporary filling over top.

I was in no pain from the tooth as decay was picked up During check up and initially thought it would be just a large filling but the decay was very deep hence the root canal. However I am now in quite a bit of pain from that area and extending down to the jawbone. Paracetamol helps a bit but if anything touches the tooth (including Luke warm water) the pain kicks up again.

Do I need to go back sooner than Monday? This page outlines some of the different types of pain -related problems that tend to occur with teeth that have dental crowns, either permanent or temporary.
