Generalized marginal gingivitis

Extremely poor oral hygiene. Generalized marginal redness. Localized gingivitis is confined to the gingiva of a single tooth or group of teeth, whereas generalized gingivitis involves the entire mouth.

Marginal gingivitis involves the gingival margin , and it may include a portion of the contiguous attached gingiva. The development of gingivitis has been extensively studied in animal and human models 1 1 14.

PAPILLARY GINGIVITIS : Involves interdental papillae, extends into adjacent portion of gingival margin and earliest sign of gingivitis often occur in papillae. DIFFUSE GINGIVITIS : Affects the gingival margin , the attached gingiva , and the interdental papillae. Gingivitis is both preventable and treatable. The most common form of gingivitis , and the most common form of periodontal disease overall, is in response to bacterial biofilms (also called plaque) that is attached to tooth surfaces, termed plaque-induced gingivitis.

Most forms of gingivitis are plaque-induced. How To Prevent This Gum Disease. Find Your Toothpaste Today! The interdental papillae are usually affected.

Treatment Done: Oral Hygiene instructions given, Scaling and polishing done. Patient kept on recall for month – 3month -6months for maintenance. The gingivae may show a fiery red marginal line, known as linear gingival erythema, even in mouths showing absence of significant accumulations of plaque. In early reports in the US and Europe, the periodontal disease, necrotizing ulcerative periodontitis, occurred in approximately 30– of AIDS clinic patients but was rarely seen in asymptomatic HIV-positive individuals.

It resembles, in some respects, acute necrotizing ulcerative gingivitis (ANUG) superimposed on rapidly. The workshop noted that factors which modify risk, such as cigarette smoking, stress, drugs or sex hormones, which affect the course of all types of periodontal disease, may be added to these primary descriptors to further describe the type of disease being managed or studied. A clenching habit may be a factor in generalized recession. Chronic periodontitis is a common disease of the oral cavity consisting of chronic inflammation of the periodontal tissues that is caused by the accumulation of profuse amounts of dental plaque. Plasma cell gingivitis is a rare condition, appearing as generalized erythema (redness) and edema (swelling) of the attached gingiva, occasionally accompanied by cheilitis (lip swelling) or glossitis (tongue swelling).

It is called plasma cell gingivitis where the gingiva (gums) are involve. Rights This work is dedicated to the Public Domain. Certain conditions have both an underlying etiology and multiple body system manifestations due to the underlying etiology.

For such conditions the ICD-10-CM has a coding convention that requires the underlying condition be sequenced first followed by the manifestation. Their primary etiology is bacterial plaque, which can initiate destruction of the gingival tissues and periodontal attachment apparatus. Stage II gingivitis (Early Lesion) Erythema due to increase in capillary loops between rete pegs.

In some cases, the inflammation may be confined to the gingival margin ( marginal gingivitis ) or interdental papillae (papillary gingivitis ), whereas in other cases there may be diffuse involvement of the gingival margin,.

In general gingivitis , the entire mouth is infected. It involves the margin of gum lines and may also include a portion of the contagious attached gingiva. Papillary gingivitis involves the interdental papilla and often extends into the adjacent portion of the marginal gingiva. Moderate Marginal Periodontitis!

Localized defects include vertical bone loss and loss of buccal and lingual cortices! Loss of buccal or lingual cortex is difficult to view radiographically. Mild gingival enlargement involves the gingival papilla only, whereas moderate gingival enlargement involves the gingival papilla and the marginal gingiva.

Severe gingival enlargement involves the gingival papilla, marginal gingiva, and the attached gingiva. He reported that non-surgical periodontal therapy, by means of scaling and root planing, had failed to prevent increased clinical attachment loss and he was referred to a periodontist for pocket reduction surgery. The code for generalized marginal pappillary severe gingivitis would depend on if the gingivitis was Acute or Chronic and if it was plaque induced or non-plaque induced your options would range from 523.
