Is gingivitis the same thing as gum disease?

In the early stage of gingivitis , bacteria in plaque build up, causing the gums to become inflamed and to easily bleed during tooth brushing. Although the gums may be irritate the teeth are still firmly planted in their sockets. No irreversible bone or other tissue damage has occurred at this stage. If left untreate it can become a more serious infection known as periodontitis.

Bleeding of the gums is sometimes referred to as gingival bleeding, and it may occur during brushing or flossing. The soreness can be accompanied by swelling of the gum tissues. Gingivitis Symptoms and Signs Bleeding Gums.

Most commonly, gingivitis is the result of plaque buildup on the teeth around the gum line. If you have mild gum disease ( gingivitis ), you can regain healthy gums by paying attention to oral hygiene. Using an anti-gingivitis toothpaste like Crest Gum Detoxify Deep Clean helps reverse early signs of gum damage and gives you clinically proven healthier gums. Periodontal ( gum ) disease is an infection of the tissues that hold your teeth in place.

It is the inflammation of the gums , caused by dental plaque buildup at the gum line. You may notice some redness or swelling of the gums , or some bleeding during brushing and flossing. If gingivitis is untreate the tissues and bone that support the teeth can also become affected. This is known as periodontitis, or periodontal disease. The most common form of gingivitis , and the most common form of periodontal disease overall, is in response to bacterial biofilms (also called plaque) that is attached to tooth surfaces, termed plaque-induced gingivitis.

Most forms of gingivitis are plaque-induced. Gum disease can attack the bones that hold your teeth in place, making them loosen or move. Periodontitis is the main cause, and it can even change the way your teeth fit together when you bite. If you’ve noticed that your gums are a little red and sore, don’t brush it off. You might have gingivitis, the first sign of gum disease.

Most people get gingivitis at some point in their lives, and its mild symptoms make it easy to ignore.

But without treatment, it can turn into bigger problems for your mouth. It is characterized by red and irritated gums. Ongoing gum inflammation can cause periodontitis, eventually causing pockets to develop between your gums and teeth that fill with plaque, tartar and bacteria. In time, these pockets become deeper, filling with more bacteria. Periodontal pockets — plaque begins to form below the gum line, gums recede and pockets form.

It commonly occurs because a film of plaque, or bacteria, accumulates on the teeth. This is more serious and can eventually lead to loss of teeth. Plaque is a naturally occurring sticky film. But too much can cause inflammation of the gum tissue, resulting in painful, bleeding gums.

Treatment typically involves professional dental cleanings to remove plaque. Using an anti- gingivitis toothpaste like Crest Gum Detoxify Deep Clean helps reverse early signs of gum damage and gives you clinically proven healthier gums. It causes the gums to become re swollen, and bleed easily.

There is usually little or no discomfort at this stage.
