What happens if a root canal is not done properly

Lets assume the root canal was properly cleaned and disinfected. Typically our office does a resin buildup at the same appointment as the root canal to seal the canals from the oral cavity. If the root canal is not properly seale you risk. If the nerve was completely removed there should be no pain at your next appointment.

Pain during a root canal treatment is not usual, but I know it happens occasionally because it once happened to me and it was pretty hair raising.

The procedure involves in the removing of the damaged area of the upper tooth , pulp, cleaning and disinfecting the region and then filling and sealing it with a cap. Infections usually occurs due to an injury , a chip or crack in the tooth, or a severe, untreated cavity. Since a part of root canal treatment involves cleaning the entire length of the tooth , what your endodontist has stated about the other dentists not achieving that would likely explain your continued symptoms.

ANSWER: If no treatment is done , the infection in the tooth and root can spread to surrounding area of the mouth and tissue spaces leading to swelling, pain and infection. Once the pulp inside a tooth becomes infecte serious complications can occur if not treated with a root canal. Next, assuming the root canals were done properly , and the restorations were placed promptly the teeth can still fail if recurrent decay gets under the crown and into the root canal.

The restorations may be leaking from improper placement or from poor hygiene or a combination of the two.

It sounds like you might still have a residual infection from the initial root canal therapy. You are assuming that because the root canal was not successful that the dentist something wrong. An X-ray will give the dentist the needed information to treat the tooth. This is not always the case. It is not unusual for a root canal to be retreated.

For 7–days after root canal treatment you may have some residual inflammation that could cause your tooth to hurt, even if it was done perfectly. Or, it could be a missed canal or a cracked tooth or an overfilled canal or a filling that is interfering with your bite or residual infection or other pathology. These bugs can travel through your body reeking havoc in other organs including the heart.

Your teeth may have to be removed if you do not have a root canal to remove the infected pulp. The pulp chamber and root canal (s) of the tooth are then cleaned and sealed. And something similar happens with a dead tooth, whether it is killed from infection, trauma or the root - canal procedure. After a root canal is done , the dead tooth, not sometimes, but always becomes an environment conducive to harboring chronic infection and toxicity. However, not all infections can be observed externally, and if you define a failed root canal as one that has a bacterial infection (whether it’s showing external symptoms or not ), most holistic or biological dentists will agree that almost all root canals fail, as all of mine did.

So it is very important to have the core and if needed the crowns put on promptly after root canal treatment. Another way root canals fail is if the tooth was fractured before treatment or even after.

Fractured teeth will eventually fail no matter what treatments are done. Getting a root canal is usually not an option. If an infected tooth is not treated with a root canal , it will only get worse and can cause some very serious complications. Root canals are done to save infected teeth in the first place.

With proper care, even teeth that have had root canal treatment can last a lifetime. If your tooth failed to heal or develops new problems, you have a second chance. Since the canals are sealed with root canal cement and Gutta Percha, there is no nerve in the tooth, the patient will not feel any symptoms if the tooth gets a cavity. The tooth will only hurt if it gets fractured (eg caused by trauma, grinding, etc) or gets another abscess around it. When is a root canal procedure not possible?

It may not be a suitable treatment option if the tooth is too badly damaged. A root canal is a treatment used to repair and save a tooth that is badly decayed or becomes infected. During a root canal procedure, the nerve and pulp are removed and the inside of the tooth is cleaned and sealed.

Without treatment, the tissue surrounding the tooth will become infected and abscesses may form.
